Taking the Next Steps to Implement the Regional Growth Vision
For the 10 organizations that partnered to develop the 18-month “How Shall We Grow?” Campaign, the unveiling of the Central Florida Regional Growth Vision in August marked the beginning, rather than the end of the journey. Over the last four months, each organization has been crafting its strategy for encouraging implementation of the vision and on November 16, 2007, the partners gathered for a workshop to discuss key issues and next steps.

Could Streetcars be Part of the Transportation Future for Central Florida?
During the “How Shall We Grow?” Initiative, one of the clear messages articulated by the citizens of Central Florida was the desire for alternative transportation options that will help alleviate the growing traffic congestion in the region. In looking to “start the conversation” about some of the different options, Harry Barley, Executive Director of METROPLAN ORLANDO is coordinating a series of workshops designed to look at transportation alternatives being used in other parts of the world.

As Florida continues to face the challenges associated with being among the fastest growing states in the nation, the UCF Metropolitan Center for Regional Studies recently hosted three forums to examine “Florida’s Threatened Resources.” The series, which featured national, state and local experts, provided an opportunity to look in-depth at some of the major environmental issues facing Florida.
