  Did you know that Seminole County has the highest estimated percentage of persons age 25 or above attaining a bachelor’s degree or above in 2000 at 34.3%. Orange and Brevard Counties follow at 25.7% and 23.3% respectively. The Florida estimated average for college attainment is 23.2%, while the United States estimated average is 25.1%.

Recent news accounts point to the fact that a significant number of NASA engineers and other professionals are nearing retirement, begging the question: What are we doing in the region to ensure that qualified young people are “tracking” to careers in the space industry?

“NASA is offering summer employment opportunities to attract high-school students to explore careers in science and engineering. We should make a concerted effort throughout the region to expose our young people—even as early as elementary and middle school—to the possibilities available right here in Central Florida."
