Rollins Invites Regional Leaders to Give Input on Curriculum
On Wednesday, March 19, 2008, Rollins College will host a day-long symposium “Past Visions, Future Solutions: A Call to Renew Hamilton Holt’s Great Adventure in Common Sense Education.”  Holt, President of Rollins from 1925 to 1949, was a formidable figure who made pragmatic education the staple of the Rollins experience.  This event, sponsored by the Rollins Florida Studies Initiative will bring together leading Florida scholars, experts, local leaders, and citizens to discuss how students can be educated for leadership roles in one of the nation’s bellwether states: a place that is vibrant, diverse, and facing the issues that will define the future.

Rollins is currently reforming its curriculum and the symposium was organized to spark debate on how to educate students for the demands of a state and region where the population is expected to double by 2050. The symposium is being held in conjunction with myregion.org, which completed the Central Florida Growth Vision this past summer.  Rollins faculty hopes to integrate this path-breaking study into a broad series of Florida Studies courses in the natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences, and provide real world experiences in helping transfer vision into reality.
