Board of Directors to Decide Future of myregion.org
What will the future hold for myregion.org? That was the primary discussion topic when the myregion.org Board of Directors met for their regular business meeting on Friday, October 12, 2007. With the conclusion of the second phase of myregion.org scheduled for the end of December, the myregion.org Steering Committee and staff have been working to develop a proposed governance structure and scope of work for Phase III. An initial proposal was presented to the Board of Directors at the October meeting. Following recommendations from the Board, the Steering Committee and staff have now developed three potential governance structures for the organization. Option 1: myregion.org remains a special project of the Foundation for Building Community, Inc. The “Parent Organization” will change from the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce to the Central Florida Partnership. Option 2: myregion.org becomes a Business Unit of the Central Florida Partnership
Option 3: myregion.org Volunteers create a new “stand-alone” organization More information on each option is available on the myregion.org web site at www.myregion.org. All three options will be reviewed and discussed during a myregion.org Board of Directors Conference Call on Friday, November 9, 2007, from 1:30-3 pm. Anyone interested in participating in the call should contact Dean Hybl, myregion.org Program Manager, for more details. Though all three options have merit, the myregion.org Steering Committee, consisting of Randy Lyon, Chair of myregion.org, Ed Timberlake, Vice Chair for Fund Development, Linda Chapin, Vice Chair for Leadership and Communications and Joel Hass, Vice Chair for Regional Performance, is recommending Option Two. This option reflects the recommendations made in a recent Leadership Survey, where leaders across Central Florida called for more efficient coordination of fundraising and operational structures for business-led initiatives. Because the Central Florida Partnership would coordinate all fundraising efforts, this option will allow myregion.org to concentrate on programming. It also allows myregion.org to maintain the mission of being unbiased and regional in focus. The final myregion.org Board of Directors meeting of Phase II will be held on December 14, 2007 and will be an important meeting for the organization. At that meeting, there are three important actions that the Board will decide:
- Approve the Phase III Governance Structure (As discussed on the November 9, 2007, Conference Call)
- Approve transitional operational policies (Which Staff will develop following the November 9, 2007, Conference Call)
- Approve the slate of Officers and Board of Directors for Phase III (Based on recommendations from the Nominating Committee)
