Opportunities to Learn More About Growth in Central Florida
Two organizations, the UCF Metropolitan Center for Regional Studies and the Orlando Chapter of the Urban Land Institute have organized regular seminars that discuss various topics associated with growth.

Second in a three part Fall Forum Series on “Florida’s Threatened Resources”. This forum concentrates on the issue of water resources with a keynote address by Cynthia Barnett, author of “Mirage: Florida and the Vanishing Water of the Eastern U.S.” Ms. Barnett has been a reporter and editor for twenty years. Since 1998, she has written for Florida Trend Magazine, where she covers investigative, environmental, public policy and business stories.

Final Fall Forum focuses on Florida’s growing energy crisis. Author and social critic James Howard Kunstler will serve as the keynote speaker. Famour for his book “The Long Emergency,” and his sometimes controversial views on urban and suburban development, Kunstler’s discussion promises to be engaging AND exciting for all who attend.

Emerging Trends in Real Estate®2008, undertaken jointly by ULI and Pricewaterhouse-Coopers, provides an outlook on U.S. investment and development trends, real estate finance and capital markets, property sectors, metropolitan areas, and other real estate issues. The report draws on formal and informal surveys of real estate executives and market experts around the U.S., including survey responses from over 400 real estate executives and personal interviews with over 200 industry leaders.
 
Leading the discussion will be the ULI-Urban Land Institute (ULI) in Washington, DC. Senior Resident Fellow Stephen R. Blank, principal researcher and adviser for the Emerging Trends in Real Estate. Blank oversees ULI’s real estate capital markets information and education programs and is a nationally recognized author and speaker on real estate equity and debt capital markets.
