Creating America's Newest Regional Partnership
In preparation for the conclusion of Phase II of myregion.org in December, the myregion.org Board of Directors and Leadership Staff are currently developing the plan of action for Phase III.  A detailed update will be given at the myregion.org Board of Directors Meeting on October 12, 2007.

At the same time, one of the founding partners of myregion.org, the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce, is also undergoing transformation.  Below is an update on what is being done.

Throughout the recent “How Shall We Grow?” initiative, led by myregion.org, we learned how very important it has become to think and act regionally.  It is important to consider how the work of one organization or public entity can affect its counterparts next door or across the region.  As a myregion.org partner, the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce is looking at a new direction for its work in serving the Central Florida region more effectively and efficiently.

In response to a call by business and community leaders, the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce is taking the lead in the creation of a new platform for collaboration, research, and delivery of projects that matter most for Central Florida’s future.  In Creating America’s Newest Regional Partnership, Chamber President Jacob Stuart and other members of the Chamber’s leadership team are traveling across the region to bring news of this important transformation process and to listen to what others in the region think about this regional opportunity.

Transformation Task Forces have launched thanks to the commitment of dozens of Central Florida’s leaders.  Over the next four months (September – December, 2007), these volunteer Chamber leaders will be working together to imagine and create America’s newest regional partnership.

In the weeks ahead, outreach to Orlando Regional Chamber partners and friends across Central Florida will include presentations to:

Board of Directors, Orlando/Orange County Conventions & Visitors Bureau

LEAD Brevard (Leadership Brevard)

Annual Board of Directors Retreat, Lakeland Area Chamber of Chamber

Excellence in Business Awards Luncheon, Lake Wales Area Chamber of Commerce

“Joint” Staff Meeting, Community Leadership Conference

Chamber Alliance for Volusia County

Brevard County Council of Chambers

“Joint” Planning Committee Meeting (Staff and Volunteers), Community Leadership Conference

Working under a common set of Core Values, the Orlando Chamber’s Transformation Team will conduct these presentations in an Open, Clear, Honest, Inclusive, Regional, Fact-Based, Collaborative, Fiscally Responsible and Accountable environment.

Transformation of this kind includes not only the familiar, but also far-reaching opportunities that may come as a result of being open to new ideas and developing new partnerships and new possibilities.  By listening to colleagues and soliciting reaction and response to this important work, the Chamber will be able to transition itself into a new model of operation that will serve our region well into the next century.

For those who wish to avail themselves of regular updates on this Transformation Process, the Orlando Regional Chamber has, already available on its website, a tile entitled, Creating America’s Newest Regional Partnership, through which visitors may access information on established Task Forces and their Missions, News of the Week, Timeline, and Contacts.  Visit the site regularly to learn more about its progress:
