As part of the selection phase of the “How Shall We Grow?” Campaign, several local media outlets throughout the Central Florida Region have committed to help educate and inform residents during a Community Outreach Media Campaign. From January 22 through February 14, 2007, myregion.org will be utilizing electronic and print media to inform the citizens of Central Florida about issues affecting our region, possible regional growth options for the future, and why citizen involvement is crucial in ensuring a future that is more desirable and fulfilling.
myregion.org has partnered with local television stations WMFE-TV and WKMG-TV to produce a number of special programs and features to be broadcast during the week of January 22–26, 2007. WMFE-TV, in partnership with WKMG Local 6, will produce four one-hour programs to be telecast Monday through Thursday. These programs will examine key issues, such as the environment, transportation, education, and the economy as they relate to “How Shall We Grow?”
On Friday of that week, WMFE-TV will unveil the regional growth options that have been developed through the input of more than 9,000 Central Florida residents. The live 90-minute television broadcast will kickoff the Scenario Selection period, which will run through February 14, 2007.
Also during the last week in January, WMFE-FM and the 90.7 News Team have committed to produce daily features on “How Shall We Grow?” during their radio programs, Morning Edition and All Things Considered. Each day the News Team will look at issues affecting the Central Florida Region and will also produce a live 30-minute call-in program on Wednesday, January 24, 2007.
myregion.org has also met with local print media outlets to discuss their involvement in the upcoming media campaign. Possible print media involvement includes articles targeting the issues that will be covered on broadcasts made by WMFE-TV and WKMG-TV, providing “in-depth” coverage of the scenarios, and continuing features on growth issues and the “scenario” selection through February 14, 2007.
The support that has already been shown by the media for the myregion.org media campaign has been tremendous. The local media serves an essential role in shaping individual communities and we’re proud to have the opportunity to be able to work so closely together on this project. We’d like to thank the media for not only their support of myregion.org, but for their help in building a brighter and more prosperous future for our region.
