Building Strong Regions From The Top Down And The Bottom Up
The conference will explore how state governments like Florida, Kentucky, Michigan and California are embracing regional approaches to problem solving. At the same time, Forum participants will learn from each other and from national experts how to advance their own regional agendas by putting cutting edge communications, research, and organizing tools to work. And what better place for diverse and dynamic leaders to gather than in South Florida, one of Americas most energetic, diverse and dynamic regions?
November 15th - 17th, 2006
Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Riverside Hotel
Former Maryland Governor Parris Glendening, Center Director of the Pew Center for the States Mary Jo Waits, and an all-star lineup of regional stewards and civic entrepreneurs will be featured at the ARS National Forum in Ft. Lauderdale, November 15-17.
Speakers from 14 states will converge in Florida with examples of how they're driving breakthrough results around the toughest domestic issues facing America.
The Forum program is designed for regional stewards and civic entrepreneurs -- leaders in government, in business, universities, foundations or the civic sector -- who are leading initiatives to build strong regions and communities. The 13 panels and workshops will share the secrets of communicating a powerful regional message, raising money, and developing strategies that produce results. The full agenda and speaker lineup can be found at www.regionalstewardship.org/stewardshipforum.html
Former Governor Parris Glendening will deliver the closing address at lunch on Friday the 17th. As Governor of Maryland from 1994 to 2002, he distinguished himself with his commitment to improving education and the environment. Glendening positioned Maryland as a national leader in the fight to preserve existing open space, protect natural resources, reinvigorate established communities, and stem the tide of suburban sprawl. In 2000, Glendening was named Public Official of the Year by Governing magazine. He now serves as President of Smart Growth America's Smart Growth Leadership Institute.
