The Urban Land Institute (ULI) Florida Announces Statewide Symposium
The Urban Land Institute (ULI) Florida is pleased to announce that a date has been set for the statewide symposium entitled: Building Florida’s Future: State Strategies for Regional Cooperation.
The symposium will take place at the Radisson Miami Hotel Friday, March 17, 2006, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Co-chairs of this event are Peter Rummel, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, St. Joe Company, and Nathaniel Reed, Former Assistant Secretary for Fish, Wildlife and National Parks, U.S. Department of the Interior.
The Honorable Jeb Bush, Governor of the State of Florida, will be the keynote speaker to discuss what the State of Florida can do to encourage and support regional collaboration.
Two years ago the Urban Land Institute launched the ULI Florida Initiative on Regional Cooperation. The initiative was led by the ULI Florida Statewide Committee on Regional Cooperation, a broad cross section of leaders from the public, private and non-profit sectors. These leaders agreed to take on this assignment because they recognized the critical importance of regional cooperation to the future economic competitiveness and livability of Florida and its communities. The symposium is an important next step in the process.
Through its deliberations, the Committee has identified principles and recommendations for regional cooperation. During this symposium, leaders in business and government from across the state of Florida will address these benefits in support of regional implementation and showcase some of the state’s best practices. If Florida is to achieve a competitive advantage as it continues to accommodate a growing and changing population, the time to act is now!
Coming soon … information will be posted on the ULI Florida website in early February. Watch for more details at www.uli.org/floridaregionalcooperation.
Thank you to myregion.org and the ULI Florida districts for their joint effort in the coordination and staffing of this statewide symposium. By working together, the entire state will benefit and thrive as we face the challenges and opportunities of the 21st Century.
