myregion.org Receives Unanimous County Support

A unanimous vote of support from the Seminole County Board of County Commissioners on October 25, 2005, completed a clean sweep of renewed financial contributions for myregion.org from the seven County Commissions in Central Florida during the second round of funding for the project.  This new three-year commitment totals nearly $700,000 for the seven counties combined.

Randy Lyon, Chair of myregion.org, made the funding requests and outlined to each county the efforts that are currently being made by myregion.org to advance the Regional Resolves created during the first phase of the project.

Among the recent accomplishments of myregion.org is the formation of the Central Florida School Boards Coalition, the Smart Growth Alliance and Naturally Central Florida; the first-ever Regional Education Summit; the completion of the Central Florida Regional Indicators Report, the Central Florida Values Study and the PennDesign Central Florida Report as well as the creation of the Regional Leadership Academy. myregion.org is also currently working with several regional and state organizations on a Regional Visioning Project that will run through 2006.

Chairman Henley of Seminole County said that he has been a proponent of myregion.org since the inception and believes it is an important organization for the region.

When Orange County gave their unanimous approval on September 13, 2005, County Mayor Rich Crotty said that myregion.org “provides vision and focus for the region” in the area of growth. He said that Orange County has “made a good investment” and that the work of myregion.org provides an opportunity to use the information gathered to “create a vision for the future.”

During the second phase of funding, myregion.org has received overwhelming support from the public, private and civic sectors with 49 total funding partners.
