Leadership Programs Looking at myregion.org

Leadership Winter Haven for the first time ever hosted their Regional Partnership Day in Orlando, FL. Yesterday participants of Leadership Winter Haven visited Orlando with the help of myregion.org. Bob Gernart sought the help of Shelley Lauten, Project Director and myregion.org to help plan and initiate Leadership Winter Haven’s visit to Orlando.

Yesterday's visit began at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort with “Disney Comes to Florida - The Growth of an Industry in Central Florida” discussion. Jane Adams, myregion.org Executive Committee member Tourism Co-Chair gave the presentation about the importance of Disney to Central Florida and how they have helped to move Central Florida into one of the global leaders in the tourism industry.

Through out the day they visited Disney’s MGM Studios, toured Central Florida’s Research Park and learned the importance of a diverse economy with reference to our entertainment and technology and the capabilities of simulation and training in our region.

The day concluded with a discussion on the importance of regionalism presented by Ms. Lauten. “It is such an honor to have Winter Haven recognize their place in Central Florida and their close tie to Orlando and the rest of the cities involved in the myregion.org project. We hope Leadership Winter Haven will make Orlando a part of their Regional Partnership Day for years to come,” said, Ms. Lauten in reference to the great experience with Leadership Winter Haven.

On Tuesday, May 13 Leadership Orlando will be visiting Gatorland. myregion.org Executive Committee Member Mark McHugh is excited about hosting Leadership Orlando’s Class 60 as they begin their Smart, Quality Growth Day. This is all a part of Leadership Orlando’s new curriculum, introduced in the Spring of 2003. The intent of the new curriculum is to emphasize Leadership Orlando’s mission of “engaging and connecting community leaders.” By applying some of the lessons learned through the myregion.org project, the Leadership sessions are able to emphasize the People, the Places, the Possibilities and to remain true to the program’s Purpose.

Mark McHugh will be hosting the breakfast and then giving a tour of Gatorland.  "Many people do not realize what Gatorland has to offer and I am excitied to show them what we are made of," said McHugh.
