Recently,
members of the Kissimmee City Commission as well as numerous Osceola County
leaders received an update on the status of myregion.org,
in an effort to keep regional leaders and the citizenry current about this regional
partnership.
More than 40 people attended
the meeting to hear the latest news about myregion.org.
Executive Committee member and Demographics/Diversity Co-Chair Sally Sherman
was invited to appear before the Commissioners by the City of Kissimmee Public
Information Officer and myregion.org
Communications Committee member, Wayne Larson.
In an eloquent and compelling
presentation, Ms. Sherman, who currently serves as Deputy County Manager of
Seminole County, gave an overview of the project, its purpose, status and goals.
She also described some of the maps developed by myregion.org,
outlining Osceola county so the City Commissioners could see first-hand how
the data collected impacts the county and the City of Kissimmee directly.
Ms. Sherman stressed that
one of the most important components of myregion.org
is the opportunity to build relationships and provide a safe environment
for dialogue and debate. A common knowledge base of community assets across
the seven-county region is what will enable leaders to make our region globally
competitive.
Kissimmee Vice-Mayor Wendell
McKinnon commended Sally for her leadership. The meeting was videotaped and
will be broadcast throughout the community. The Kissimmee City Commission meets
every Tuesday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the City Hall Commission Chambers.
