myregion.org “En Español”

Visitors to the interactive website of myregion.org can now obtain information about the program, share ideas and learn about the region “en Español.”

“With the Hispanic population in the region growing larger every year, it’s important for us to reach out to this community and help them stay abreast about every aspect of myregion.org,” said Chairman Joel Hass.

For the first time in Florida, Hispanics are the largest minority group in the state.

With almost 3 million, the Hispanic population has grown by 70 percent, even greater than the national average growth of 58 percent.

The website, www.myregion.org, can even be accessed directly to the Spanish section of the website by using the keywords in Spanish, “www.miregion.org” The special section includes an explanation of the project’s history, its goals and objectives, the project timeline and a section on “frequently asked questions.”

The site continues to average more than 5,000 hits a day - over a million since it was unveiled in December. This confirms the public’s continued interest in this unique initiative supported by seven counties and a variety of businesses, institutions and the citizens of the region.

myregion.org is a two-year in-depth analysis of the region that will create a framework for regional thinking and consensus building to ensure Central Florida’s success in the global marketplace. The project has 13 areas of study that include: Education, Transportation, Demographics/Diversity, Economy/Workforce, Tourism, Development, Culture, Healthcare, Public Safety, Infrastructure, Governance, Environment and History.

“We believe the reason behind the website’s continued success is that it is updated regularly, and it is remarkably interactive and informative. Most importantly, it was created to serve as an important communication tool for this project and we want to make it easy and accessible to everyone. We want the Hispanic community to be actively involved in this process. We need their voice, their influence and their presence,” Hass concluded.
