Working The Workshop

If only traveling along I-4 were as easy as navigating the upcoming myregion.org workshops series! Just like driving down a busy highway, there will be plenty of landscape to see, as participants make their way through one or more in an variety of 90-minute workshop sessions that will cover a array of essential issues.

The four-day series, which is the last public session in this phase of myregion.org, will kick off with the Transportation workshop. Featured in this session will be a set of extraordinary maps detailing the complexity of the region’s transportation system and defining its patterns throughout Central Florida’s seven-county region. Additionally, they will provide a clear picture of how the Central Florida region is connected to the Super Region, North America – and globally.

The Transportation maps provide an extraordinary look at Central Florida’s airport, seaports, railroad and transit systems as well as the area’s major highway and roadway systems and plans. Additionally, the maps will detail pertinent data that ranges from FAA designations and volume to traffic counts and ridership figures. The maps also will show freight train travel as well as tonnage on vessels using the port systems.

An interesting example is this map showing the interstates and major highways. Please note the pattern of toll roads and the importance of I-4 as a major connector of the region.

“This is an impressive compilation of data that will provide us with a remarkably clear picture of how complex and diverse our region’s transportation system is right now,” said Transportation Template Co-Chair Rita Kane. “This will play a key role in establishing a framework for the future for us.”
