It’s All In a Word!

myregion.org is a unique project that is teaching a new visual language and a broader understanding of the “common language” being developed for Central Florida.

Recently, the Leadership Council opted to rename the “Government” Essential Activity, “Governance.” The change was made to more appropriately describe the topic being analyzed as part of the initiative.

“The term government tended to focus on individual government systems and responsibilities,” explained Lawrie Platt Hall, Executive Committee member and Technical Committee Liaison. “Governance,” she continued, “creates a spirit or model of cooperation and collaboration among the participating government entities, including elected councils and commissions, as well as advisory boards, committees, and other government-related activities.”

“We needed a word that provides a broader way of thinking to best represent this particular area of study,” she said. The change allows for discussion and examination of an expanded range of issues associated with government services and functions rather than one particular type of government entity.
