OFFICIAL COMMUNITY PLAN HEARINGS SET FOR SEPT 8TH

Ted Adlem, President

Public hearings for the South West Mission Area Plan OCP amendments are scheduled to commence on September 8, 2003. Due to the larger than normal expected turn out the hearings will take place at the Best Western Mission City Lodge and will begin at 7:00 PM. The OCP amendment is only the first step of the approval process. At this stage Council will hear from the public and consider approval of the area plan.

CHAMBER ACTIVE IN ALL PARTS OF COMMUNITY

Stacey Crawford – 1st Vice President

Following our mid-year review, I am pleased to say that the first six months of 2003 have been a busy, productive and a fast-paced time for your Chamber of Commerce. Energetic activity in every area of the Chamber's program of work is underway, producing tangible results that are helping to make Mission a better place in which to live and work.

During the first half of the year, the Chamber has garnered significant volunteer and membership support for its programs. The Chamber has also assisted in new businesses inquiries to Mission, added new members, helped raise money for a variety of community activities and continued working on critical community issues such as healthcare and community development.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

LYNNE CHRISTENSEN, Immediate Past President

Are you considered by your peers to be a leader? Would you like the opportunity to use your integrity to honestly represent 350 member businesses and their interests? Do you have what it takes to make positive decisions that will impact the future of business in Mission? Do you want to take a leading role and be involved with a small group of individual business owners who have the ear of local, provincial and federal decision- makers? If you can answer yes to these questions, and are interested in serving on our Board of Directors, I would like to hear from you.

THE ART OF THE DEAL ISN’T ALWAYS BORN IN THE BOARDROOM

Terry Rockwell Golf is the fastest growing sport in the world. It is also accepted that more business deals are now consummated on the golf course than in the boardroom. It is an excellent networking tool when used properly.

UNTANGLING THE WEB

Helen Secco In last month’s column I spoke about the need for a business to actually have a website. If you were one of the companies that determined (based on my questions) that you did not require a site, this does not mean that your business cannot take full advantage of the World Wide Web.
