President’s Message – Meetings and Travel are Critical to Colorado’s Economy
In this article last month, I shared with you about the efforts being made by MPI and our entire industry to get the word out to politicians and news media everywhere that our work is important to the economy and to the success of businesses. The good news is that, as of today, people are listening and starting to get the message that “Meetings Mean Business”! However, our work is far from over as we all need to continue to familiarize ourselves with the statistics that tell the story of just how important our industry is nationwide. Below are some interesting numbers about our local marketplace; information that can be very helpful as we talk with co-workers, family, friends, and politicians about the impact the meeting and travel industry makes here in Colorado.

MIX it Up with MPI
The 2009 MPI Rocky Mountain Chapter New Member Event was a huge success.
Since April 2008, MPI Rocky Mountain Chapter has welcomed 150 new members to our group. Each year the chapter hosts a New Member Event to give the new members an opportunity to meet other new members and the Board of Directors. The New Member Event was held on April 2, 2009 at the Loews Denver Hotel.
This year’s event was a teambuilding event called MIX it up with MPI. The goal of the evening was to show what happens when you take a random selection of ingredients, put several creative minds together and see what you can produce as a team. Each new member was given a team name and an ingredient. When it was time they all had to find their team, introduce themselves, gather their ingredients and then create. Each team had to work together to come up with a creative, innovative and tasty cocktail using as many of the ingredients as possible, up to six.
