Leadership/Citizenship McKinney Alums:
Join us for our next Leadership Advisory Committee Meeting!
The Leadership Advisory Committee recently made recommendations to the Chamber Board.
1. Name and curriculum change back to Leadership McKinney (LM) - This will entail some necessary re-branding, marketing and membership activities toward the ultimate goals of reflecting the national trends in leadership programs, gaining CEU certification for the program, and developing current and future leaders within our community. Citizenship, an essential aspect of leadership, will continue to be embedded within the program.
2. Exploration of a complementary spin-off program - This would provide an "Experience McKinney" option for new residents, seniors, stay-at-home parents, retirees, et al. to become more informed, engaged, and in touch with the community. Participants may attend joint sessions with LM on a regular basis, perhaps for a ½ day, with a reciprocal benefit for both programs through interaction, discourse and bridging.
3. Pursuit of "Life after LM" - programming, activities and alumni development in support of strategic planning, think tanks, alumni networking, and events.
As Chair of the Leadership Advisory Committee, I have seen it evolve and grow over the past year. The ambitious work described in these recent actions will require continued participation of existing committee members along with the insights and talents of our many other alumni colleagues. At this critical turning point in the program's history, please consider joining us the first Tuesday of the month to be an integral part of an invaluable initiative.
Next Meeting: Tuesday, April 7 - 7:30 a.m.

See you there!

Move, McKinney!
Get happy--and healthy-- with the world’s easiest exercise.
Move, McKinney! Is a new program created by the McKinney Chamber of Commerce Wellness Committee to help motivate everyone to move. And the easiest way to move is to walk.
Walking is one of the best ways for a person who has not exercised in many years to start an exercise program. There’s very low risk of injury with walking, it’s comfortable, easy and low-cost. All you need is a good pair of shoes.
The medical benefits of walking include reduction of the risk of heart disease, improvement of heart function and muscle tone, lowering of blood pressure, cholesterol, risk of stroke and risk of injury. One of the best benefits is an improved sense of well-being or happiness with the increased endorphin levels.
Find a friend to walk with you. Meet at the mailbox or the water cooler and take 5 minutes at lunch to walk around the building. The City’s website has a list of parks and walking trails you can find for weekend outings. Let walking become a part of the day you look forward to.
Just Move, McKinney!

Buy Local
Support McKinney Business and McKinney Tax Base
You may not realize it, but when you’re making a local purchase you are not only acquiring a new product or service – you are also helping a McKinney business keep their doors open.
With the current downturn in the economy, keeping businesses open – and keeping jobs – is top of mind. While the North Texas region has weathered the economic storm better than most parts of the state, we are not completely immune to suffering the ills of a down economy. That’s why it’s important that we all do our part to be part of the cure.
When making a purchasing decision think local first. Keeping dollars circulating in McKinney will help build a vibrant community. It will help keep McKinney businesses operating and providing jobs to the local workforce.

Construction Updates
Southbound U.S. 75 Exit Ramp to U.S. 380 Scheduled for Closure
COLLIN COUNTY - The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will close the southbound U.S. 75 exit ramp to U.S. 380, in McKinney, beginning Monday, April 6. The closure is expected to last until spring 2010 and is necessary to ensure the safety of the traveling public, as well as contractor crews and TxDOT inspectors during the reconstruction of the southbound U.S. 75 mainlanes and frontage road.
The closure is part of a traffic control plan designed to keep traffic moving while the $25.6 million U.S. 75/U.S. 380 intersection improvement project is completed.
TxDOT asks motorists to drive carefully through the work zone, and has placed electronic message boards along southbound U.S. 75 to notify the public of the scheduled closure. Signs will be in place to direct all traffic exiting southbound U.S. 75 to U.S. 380 to use the Wilmeth Road exit for the duration of the closure.
The project is scheduled for completion by fall 2010. TxDOT and Texas Sterling Construction Co. would like to apologize in advance for any inconvenience, and thank area drivers, local businesses, the City of McKinney and Collin County for their continued patience and cooperation as crews work diligently to complete this vital project as soon and as safely as possible.
