From The Director
by Lynn Reed
As we near the close of
another productive year, the staff and board wish to express our sincere
appreciation for the dedicated work of our volunteers. We are also truly grateful to our funders
who understand the incredible need for adult literacy services in our
community.
For the seventh consecutive
year the agency has achieved the goals set for our programs funded by the
Arizona Department of Education. While
this is extremely important since it enables the agency to continue to provide
services, it is even more meaningful because our students are gaining skills to
obtain better jobs and help their children succeed in school.
This year also brought
changes in our student base. We are
enrolling more individuals who wish to learn to read or prepare to take the GED
exam. The agency is encouraging our
students to seriously consider extending their goals to include enrolling in
community college and/or certificate programs.
In order to help our students with these goals we have established a
wonderful partnership with GateWay Community College. The college is offering credit classes at LVMC’s main office and
transition services for our students.
This is extremely important for our students to help them gain the
skills needed to succeed in today’s work workforce.
Thank you for the help you
have given our students! I hope you
have a holiday season filled with the warmth of friends and family.
