Birdies For Charity
You’re invited to be a part of the golf action at the FBR Open through the tournament’s Birdies for Charity Program.  The program centers around the PGA TOUR professionals making birdies – lots of them – during the 2008 FBR Open (Jan. 31 – Feb. 3 at the TPC Scottsdale). Don’t worry; you don’t need to be much of a golfer or even a golf fan for that matter to participate in the Birdies For Charity Program. What’s important is that by participating, you’ll be helping out Literacy Volunteers, and in the process, you may even be rewarded for your generosity.

In fact, you have a chance to win a 2008 Buick along with 100 other great prizes just for participating!  How do you win you ask?  You are eligible simply by making a pledge – as little as one penny – for every birdie made by the PGA TOUR players at the FBR Open (Thursday through Sunday, Jan. 31 -- Feb. 3).  In recent years at the FBR Open, the PGA TOUR professionals have averaged about 1,500 birdies during tournament play.  What does that mean?  Well, if you pledged one penny for every birdie made, your pledge would amount to $15.00.  If you pledged two cents per birdie, it would be $30.00.  It’s really pretty simple.

Now you may be asking who receives your pledge?  Well, we do – Literacy Volunteers of Maricopa County.   The FBR Open and Thunderbirds Charities are giving our organization the opportunity to generate funds from this fun promotion and we get to keep every cent collected.  Plus, as an added bonus, Thunderbirds Charities will match 10 percent of the total amount of pledges we collect.  So if we collect $10,000, that’s an extra $1,000 for us.

As you can see, Birdies For Charity is a win-win for everybody.  Your pledge will go a long way in helping us raise capital funds, plus, it will make you eligible to win the 2008 Buick or other great prizes!  What’s more, your chances of winning are good, as all winners will be selected through random drawings from collected pledge forms.  For every penny you pledge, your name will be entered into the drawings.

The program is simple.  After the tournament, Thunderbirds Charities will bill you for the amount of your pledge written on the official pledge form.  The awarding of prizes will take place after the pledge collection deadline – in April 2008.

Please help our students! If you have any questions, please call us at (602) 274-3430.  Thank you in advance and best of luck to you in winning a Birdies For Charity prize!
