Birdies For Charity
You’re invited to be a part of the golf action at the FBR Open through the tournament’s Birdies for Charity Program.  The program centers around the PGA TOUR professionals making birdies – lots of them – during the 2008 FBR Open (Jan. 31 – Feb. 3 at the TPC Scottsdale). Don’t worry; you don’t need to be much of a golfer or even a golf fan for that matter to participate in the Birdies For Charity Program. What’s important is that by participating, you’ll be helping out Literacy Volunteers, and in the process, you may even be rewarded for your generosity.

Omer's Journey From Africa To America
by Christie

In late July 2002 Omer was traveling in a tribal group with their cattle through the area of Yap, Ethiopia when they happened upon a battle.  A fierce exchange of gunfire erupted and the group that Omer was traveling with was dispersed in the confusion.  Omer was trying to flee when he was shot in the right leg.  He managed to run for sometime on his bleeding leg but eventually he fell and became unconscious.

Volunteer Opportunities
by LVMC Staff

Please encourage friends, family members, and co-workers to help give the gift of knowledge by volunteering with Literacy Volunteers of Maricopa County.  Our next orientation will be held on January 12, 2008. LVMC is also desperate for tutor trainers so please consider becoming a tutor trainer and help our new volunteers get prepared.
