I always view September as a “Back to School” month.  Although I haven’t been in school for quite sometime, I do feel like it’s a month for a fresh start at work.  Just like students have new teachers, new shoes, and new backpacks; I think it’s a perfect time to get re-focused on business goals, re-acquainted with old friends, and re-energized with NTMA!

Yesterday I made myself sit down with our President and Operations Manager.  My goal was to write down three things we were going to do or continue to do to improve the company.  Once we started talking, the stuff we came up with were things we didn’t necessarily need to start doing from scratch.  The list consisted of items we already do, but are not systematic about how we do them...

A Note from Your Executive Director

Brenda BakerThe fires of the last couple of weeks have been eerily familiar to me after the time I spent in the San Diego fires last year.  I feel the fear of the people whose homes and livelihood are being threatened by Mother Nature’s fury.  For our members who have been affected by these fires, our thoughts and prayers are with you.  Fire season has not even begun, and we are seeing the destruction begin.  Lucky for us, we have some of the best firefighters in the country. Thank you to them!

In preparation for the season, I have found some information and websites that are essential reading for anyone living in Southern California.  Most people don’t expect to be caught in a fire and are not prepared.  People that I know who have lost their homes in fires...

Our panelists will be discussing their experiences with Long Term Agreements with customers and vendors.
We will discuss:
What to look out for, how to structure contracts, how to hedge commodity prices, benefits and drawbacks to having long term agreements, quality programs required by some customers to do business with them, managing quality from vendors, forecast and delivering to the release, how to turn relationships into partnerships, assessing the risks involved and negotiating a price to compensate for the risk.

We are pleased that NTMA National Chairman Ron Overton will be joining us. Ron is the president of Overton Industries in Mooresville, Indiana.  Overton specializes in metal tubing services, injection mold tooling, carbide tooling, custom stamping, and powdered metal tooling in the Automotive, Consumer Products, Defense, Energy, Heavy Equipment and Safety Industries. Ron will give us a quick overview of doing business in the Auto industry.

Our roundtable discussion will follow. We will survey members for roundtable topics before the meeting and will have an open session for other topics attendees want to discuss. This meeting is a great opportunity to talk to fellow shop owners and learn from their experiences with situations you are facing in your business!

NTMA Training Centers of Southern California, a private non-profit trust organization with two campuses in the Los Angeles and Inland Empire areas has immediate openings for highly motivated, results-oriented PART-TIME and FULL-TIME Machinist Instructors to work at both our Norwalk, CA and Ontario, CA campuses. 

This is a GREAT opportunity for experienced Machinists to pass on their knowledge to others!  Flexible schedules available as the NTMA Training Centers hold classes from 7am – 11pm Monday thru Friday (multiple classes throughout the day) and 8am-4:30pm on Saturdays.
