So I’ll bet a few years back most of you read Spencer Johnson’s “Who Moved My Cheese?”  I was thinking about this book because last week I felt like someone ate my cheese! 

Over the last couple of months our company has cut hours, reduced its work force, and cut back in ALL areas of expenses.  These days “cutting expenses” is easier said than done when basic overhead costs just keep going up such as insurance, utilities, environmental fees, ISO certification/audits, permits, taxes, etc.  Furthermore, we have ramped up marketing with cold calls and chasing-down every possible quote...

for the Small Manufacturer

In last month’s article, we began the strategic planning process. Since the company an entrepreneur creates is a manifestation of his/her personal vision and values, it was important that we first looked at ourselves (the entrepreneur) in the strategic planning process. 

After reading the above mentioned article you should begin to have a clear understanding about where you want to go personally. You can now begin to create the direction of your company.  Let’s start this process by asking the fundamental “purpose” question:

Why does this company exist?  What purpose does it fill in the marketplace?  If your company disappeared, what void (if any) would exist?

NTMA Training Centers Have Graduates Available!

The NTMA Training Centers in Norwalk and Ontario would like to invite you to interview graduates looking for employment. The Machinist Training graduates complete an intensive 7 month program that includes topics such as algebra, trigonometry, blueprint reading, all conventional machining, to the CNC mills and lathes and an introduction to wire EDM and MasterCam. 

Every 6 weeks NTMA Training Centers graduate anywhere between 30 -20 graduates.  The Placement Department at both locations can provide you with up-to-date resumes and also assist in scheduling interviews...

NTMA Training Centers of Southern California, a private non-profit trust organization with two campuses in the Los Angeles and Inland Empire areas has immediate openings for highly motivated, results-oriented PART-TIME and FULL-TIME Machinist Instructors to work at both our Norwalk, CA and Ontario, CA campuses. 

This is a GREAT opportunity for experienced Machinists to pass on their knowledge to others!  Flexible schedules available as the NTMA Training Centers hold classes from 7am – 11pm Monday thru Friday (multiple classes throughout the day) and 8am-4:30pm on Saturdays.
