President's Message
by John Martinez
Happy New Year,
I hope you all had a great holiday season enjoying time with those special to you, doing all kinds of fun stuff, eating too much and you had some time to relax and rest. It feels like each year is coming and going at a faster pace. Perhaps we are just so busy and occupied with so many things that compete for our time and attention. As this New Year begins, I’m considering what to do with the limited time I have so I can focus on what is important..

Fire Hazards of Magnesium and Titanium
by Carlos Acedo and Scott Robinette
This article is one in an ongoing series being published over the course of the year, compliments of Sentry Insurance. The intention is to advise customers and organizational members on important, but generally unknown or misunderstood, business coverage risks or coverage nuances. (Based on a composite of real-life experiences.)
Most metals will burn given the proper conditions and size of the particles. Large solids are difficult to ignite, but fine particles, dust, chips and shavings can ignite and burn rapidly. Combustible metals include magnesium, titanium, sodium, potassium, calcium, lithium, hafnium, zirconium, zinc, thorium, uranium and plutonium. Even fine steel or aluminum particles can ignite or be explosive.

O.C. manufacturer celebrates 30 years in business
By JAN NORMAN / ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER
Robert "Bud" Pendarvis just wanted to do his own thing and create a future workplace for his kids so he opened his own machine shop, Pendarvis Manufacturing, in 1982.
This month the Anaheim business celebrates 30 years in business with sons Brian and Robert managing the place. Instead of making its own products, it makes things for other companies as a custom precision machine shop and metal fabricator.
