Dr. Donna Petersen to Lead USF World
Dr. Donna Petersen
In August 2009, Dr. Donna Petersen was appointed by President Judy Genshaft as the new Interim Executive Director of USF World and of the Patel Center for Global Solutions. In her new role, Dean Petersen will analyze USF’s existing global collaborations and strategies and develop opportunities for new associations with universities and institutions across the globe. As the Dean of Public Health, Dean Petersen has traveled extensively and is aware of the necessity for USF to create a global learning environment for USF faculty, staff, and students.

Beyond Global Leadership

On August 8, 2009, Dr. Indira Chakravarty, former Director and Dean of the All India Institute of Hygiene and Public Health, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (AIIHPH) in Kolkata, India received the USF President’s Global Leadership Award. Sponsored by the College of Public Health, Dr. Chakravarty was recognized with USF’s highest distinction for exceptional achievement in international leadership and global achievement for research.

Gilman Award Recipient – On Her Way to Japan
Andrea Homans
Andrea Homans, a senior in International Business with a focus in Marketing, was presented the Gilman International Scholarship for fall 2009. The Gilman International Scholarship is a highly competitive grant sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State to encourage undergraduate U.S. students to participate in an education abroad program. Andrea’s $4,000 scholarship will support her study abroad program to Japan for the fall 2009 semester.

Exchanging Opportunities
Yonsei University
The office of Education Abroad provides students with exchange opportunities to study abroad for one or multiple semesters in fall, spring and summer. One exchange opportunity gaining popularity is the Korean exchange program. Collaborating with Yonsei University, Education Abroad offers USF students the opportunity to study in Korea at two of the university’s campuses in Seoul and Wonju.

For international student, Sung Han Rhew, coming to the U.S. to pursue a degree in higher education was more than just the opportunity to visit another country. It was the opportunity to study a field that he is greatly passionate about and one that not many people know much about.
