Dr. Mark T. Orr and Kay Orr

When Dr. Mark Orr, founder of the USF International Affairs Center passed away on January 2, 2010, the university and IAC in particular lost one of its most cherished patrons. The legacy that Dr. Orr has left behind as a professor, an administrator and a human being who believed that conversation and understanding were the best weapons to bring cultures and countries together in harmony is one that will never fade away.

Every year the International Affairs Center and its supporting offices bring in the new year with a resolution to give the international and the American student population at USF a taste of what being a global university truly is about. With hundreds of students from across the globe, IAC has seen an increase in its international student population and a growing interest in American students to step outside U.S. soil and explore cultures that are unfamiliar to them.

USF Participates In Haiti Relief

When disaster struck Haiti on January 12, 2010, organizations all over the U.S. began to mobilize and put together resources to help the Haitian people in the aftermath of the deadly earthquake. One of these many groups were USF’s own student community who put their best foot forward to ensure that no efforts were left unturned in providing relief.

Interactive Teaching in a Globalized World
Recently awarded a grant by the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX), the Patel Center for Global Solutions and the College of Education at USF are conducting a six-week workshop on “Interactive Teaching in a Globalized World” between February 4 and March 14, 2010.

Back from Bolivia

The International Capstone program to Bolivia is one of USF Education Abroad’s most recent success stories. Returning from their program in December, students in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering say the program gave them exactly what it was designed to provide - the opportunity to travel abroad and implement their academic knowledge in a realistic setting.
