TSCPA Tip Sheet
New Succession Planning Resource for Members Only
TSCPA is excited to announce the addition of the Practice Management Institute to the many resources available to our members in the online Public Practice Center. This latest resource is designed to help Texas CPA firms address one of their most pressing practice management issues – succession planning. TSCPA has a special arrangement with the Succession Institute for TSCPA members only. Members have access to a FREE course on succession planning, as well as a substantial discount on a variety of other practice management CPE courses. Please note, CPE is not offered for the free materials but is available for the discounted courses. Make plans to visit this latest TSCPA resource to take full advantage of the special arrangement made especially for you.
Special Notice Regarding CCFL
TSCPA has participated in the Center for Corporate Financial Leadership (CCFL) for nearly two years now to bring members access to additional resources. Despite widespread promotion, not many TSCPA members took advantage of this member benefit. For example, only 126 members requested materials from CCFL's lending library during 2008 and just three members visited the Talk to a Member section of the website last year. To be a good steward of your dues dollars, TSCPA leadership has decided to discontinue the Society's CCFL participation. The cost to participate in the program is too great given members' limited use of the resources. As such, CCFL will be phased out with an end date of October 15. All members are encouraged to check out, become familiar with and take advantage of the many other TSCPA resources and benefits available to its members.

Houston CPA Society Embraces Social Networking
The Houston CPA Society is now on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter! If you aren’t active on these websites, now is the time to get involved! If you ARE active, here are a few tips to utilizing these social media outlets.
1. Ask Questions! The Houston CPA Society designed these pages for peer-to-peer interaction. With discussion boards, you may find another Society member whom has been dealing with similar issues as you, and another Society member can offer an answer to your burning inquiry.
2. Submit Articles! Did you read or write an article that was beneficial to your practice? Submit this information to the group. Odds are another Society member will appreciate that information as well.
3. Don’t Be Afraid To Connect With People! In the past, you never introduced someone you didn't know personally to a business contact. It just wasn't done. In today's social networking arena, however, very few people meet face-to-face and many business relationships are nurtured via online venues like LinkedIn and Facebook. Remember, you hold the power of restriction levels for strangers, friends and groups on Facebook.
4. Understand how to tweet! The overall objective of Twitter is to inform your friends, family and colleagues what you’re up to … in 140 characters or less! That may seem tough but, it allows you to send and receive straight-to-the-point information. Follow tscpahouston to see the latest happenings with the Society!
So, what’s there to lose? The Houston CPA Society Facebook Fan Page, LinkedIn Group and Tweets provide you with constant information about upcoming events, professional discussions and topics and the opportunity to stay connected with other CPAs! Visit the websites, search for the Houston CPA Society and interact with fellow Society members. See you online!
