Charity Extravaganza To Honor Its Own - Nancy and Dick Rutledge
Nancy Rutledge has been executive director of the Houston CPA Society since 1978. During this time, Dick Rutledge has been a true partner, supporting her years of outstanding performance and successful projects. As Nancy has dealt with the day-to-day administrative affairs of the Society, Dick has always been on call to help where needed, from hanging white boards in the training facility to correcting plumbing problems in the kitchen or providing carpentry assistance. Through Dick's 26 years' experience in the Real Estate industry, where he served on the board and two terms as president of its professional organization HOLBA, the Society was introduced to the best of architectural designers to assist in building out the Society's office space and training facility.

Society Celebrates 80 Years: Challenges of Association Management
Directory of Members – Member Information Handbooks
In May 1978, one of the first tasks encountered by Nancy Rutledge as she took on the challenge of leading a group of 3,038 certified public accountants as executive director of the Houston Chapter, Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, was to publish the annual Directory of Members. This was a daunting task requiring the matching of old and new photos to members' names not to mention the proofing of data on every single member. In 1994, a decision was made to print the directory every other year due to budgetary constraints. Then, during the 1996-1997 year, it was decided to discontinue the pictorial directory. Although the last pictorial directory was published in 1996, the file boxes of member photos are still retained in the office.

TSCPA Tip Sheet
Disaster Recovery
Regardless of where you are located, the aftermath of recent storms may have affected your employer and/or your clients. TSCPA works hard to connect you with all the information you need, including details about IRS tax deadline extensions and disaster recovery resources.

Membership Recruitment
According to the tabloids, TSCPA is holding a membership recruitment campaign through December 15. The challenges have been issued and your Chapter has an opportunity to win recognition and a fun prize for its efforts. It's all very hush-hush but sources say that members who recruit new members will receive rewards, and new members will be entered in a prize drawing. Get all the dirt and online membership applications by visiting the TSCPA web site at www.tscpa.org.

No Room At The Inn? The Society's Doors Are Open!
With the economy in its current state, it's becoming increasingly difficult to find a convenient and reasonably priced facility for your holiday party. Did you know the Houston CPA Society rents its training facility rooms, including tables, chairs, and kitchen privileges?

Restaurants and hotels charge premium rates for room rental, catering and beverage service. Use the Society's facility and bring your own! Use your favorite caterer, bring in your own wait staff and bartender; do it yourself and get more party for your dollar. Society staff can also recommend catering and beverage services.

Centrally located on the 610 Loop at San Felipe near the Galleria, our seventh floor suite of rooms provides up to 3,000 square feet of carpeted comfort. Covered parking is a plus with four elevators to provide your employees and guests with quick, all weather access.

Attention Society Members: Book your office party with the Society and receive a discount on room rental!

The training facility is also ideal for meetings, seminar and staff training. Refer to the online Rental Chart, or contact CPE Director Judith Butcher (713.622.7733 x 26; jbutcher@houstoncpa.org) for assistance in planning your function.
