President's Corner
by Ryan Hellman

As quickly as it began, 2007 comes to a close. We hear from our clients and colleagues that they hope to achieve their 2008 goals better than they did in 2007. Was it a formidable year for you? Could we be of some assistance as you approach new-year planning?

One of our goals for this newsletter is to communicate legislative and, in particular, OSHA trends or changes. This issue contains such information as it relates to PPE purchasing requirements for employers and changes in our Workers’ Compensation requirements.

REMINDER – OSHA Form 300A Due for Posting
The OSHA Form 300A, Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses, must be completed and posted by February 1st 2008. The summary must include the total number of 2007 job-related injuries and illnesses that were logged on your OSHA 300 form. If your company had no recordable injuries or illnesses in 2007, you must still post the form with zeros on the total line.

Spotlight on
Daniel Zier

Most Consultants at Hellman & Associates work with many clients, but Daniel’s environmental, health and safety expertise serves only one – Roche Colorado Corporation (RCC), a pharmaceutical manufacturer in Boulder. This consulting model works well for a few of our larger clients who outsource much of their safety and health needs to Hellman & Associates.

Daniel during a recent visit to Niagra Falls

Daniel has been with our company for a year and a half but it seems longer than that because we worked with him at Roche prior to him becoming an H&A staff member.

His work at Roche is varied and suited to his degree in Physics from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. His environmental duties at Roche include groundwater monitoring, investigative sampling and groundwater contamination remediation system operation. He provides industrial hygiene monitoring services for active pharmaceutical ingredients and raw materials used in production at RCC. He also manages MSDS inventory databases to ensure personnel can readily access hazard communication information for chemical manufacturing processes.

His areas of expertise are:

Health and Safety Support
Environmental Monitoring
Hazard Communication Support
IH Equipment Maintenance & Calibration
Leak Detection Monitoring
Remediation Support
Surface Sampling
Field Sampling
Chemical Control Service

Additionally, he is an expert Wii player!
Hats off to Daniel Zier!
