The Chamber will kick off the latest of its new and bright events, the 2009 Federal Issues Series, on Wednesday, January 28 at the Four Seasons Hotel. Speakers Patrick G. Heck and William Kirk, Jr. from event sponsor K&L Gates will present their expert perspectives on the impact of proposed tax legislation and the effect it will have on Central Texas businesses. Both Heck and Kirk concentrate on federal tax policy matters affecting businesses, tax-exempt organizations, governments and individuals, representing clients before Congress and Executive Branch agencies.

While, nationally, residential permits for 2008 will be at their lowest level in decades, if Austin ends the year with approximately 14,000 units permitted, it will be in a realm similar to the annual totals of the late 1990s. As difficult as the last two years of double digit declines in new housing activity have been, some of the indicators housing market analysts monitor are, relatively speaking, fairly balanced for Austin.
