Mayor Wynn, Mueller Neighborhood Association and Small Business Owners Stand in Opposition to Proposition 2
Today Mayor Will Wynn, the Mueller Neighborhood Association and other business leaders spoke out against the passage of Proposition 2. If approved by the voters on November 4, Prop 2 would require the City of Austin to violate existing contracts with Mueller Redevelopment in East Austin and the Domain.

“Proposition 2 poses a simple question of fairness,” said Bobby Jenkins, co-chair of Keep Austin’s Word and Owner ABC Services. “The issue isn’t whether voters like the Domain or Mueller agreements specifically. The issue is whether voters support terminating City agreements that were made honestly and publicly, and only after the other party has met all of its obligations.”

Supercharging Data Centers
Data centers are found in nearly every sector of the economy—financial services, media, high-tech, universities, and many others that operate data centers to aid in business processes, information management, and communications functions. The U.S. data center industry is in the middle of a major growth period stimulated by increasing demand for data processing and storage, including advances in high performance scientific computing, increased use of electronic transactions, shift to electronic medical records, and rapid, global developments in developing countries such as China. This increased demand has increased the strain on the power grid and increased the energy consumption of information technology and infrastructure equipment. It is estimated that this sector already accounts for 60 billion kWh, about 1.5 percent of the total electricity consumed in the U.S.

On October 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the MCC Building Auditorium, 3925 W. Braker Lane, a panel will address the vision for achieving energy efficiency in U.S. data centers. Panelists will address questions on the technical challenges, barriers to growth, and partnerships between public-private organizations. Cost: $20 Pre-Registration Fee/ $30 at the door (cash or check only) October 22, 5 to 8 p.m. Register now.
