IBM Texas Sr. Executive to Keynote State of Education Event December 9
Tony Befi, IBM’s Texas Senior State Executive and Vice President of POWER and High Performance Computing Systems will be the keynote speaker for the Austin Chamber ‘State of Education in Austin’ luncheon on December 9, 2008 at the Frank Erwin Center. Befi’s responsibilities include hardware, software and solutions delivery. The IBM organization Befi manages spans over multiple locations throughout the U.S. and abroad. Cap Metro To Present Update on MetroRail at NWBC Luncheon
The Northwest Business Council luncheon on October 15, at the Holiday Inn Northwest Plaza/Arboretum, will feature a discussion by Capital Metro on the status of the MetroRail. The MetroRail Red Line will run on 32-miles of existing freight tracks between Leander and Downtown Austin, providing convenient service for suburban and central Austin residents. The presentation includes a peek at the sleek new trains with their many modern amenities. The NWBC luncheon offers a great networking opportunity. Come meet the many new members that have joined the NWBC recently and strengthen your business connections with existing members. Cost is $20 for members and $35 for future members. Few Sponsorships Remain for the Economic Forecast
Save the date! Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke will keynote the Austin Chamber’s Annual Economic Forecast on December 1 at noon at the Hilton Austin this year. In 2008, the national economy has been a major topic for the business community, and this event will also focus on the economies of Texas and Austin.

Emerging Technology Fund Application Workshop
The Chamber will be conducting a workshop to to discuss the Emerging Technology Fund’s Commercialization Application process and guidelines on Tuesday, September 23 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Austin Chamber of Commerce, 210 Barton Springs Road, Suite 400. Learn more about this avenue of investment made available by the State of Texas to innovative emerging technology start-up companies basing their operations in Texas. Chamber to Speak at SEMI Austin Lunch Forum
Chamber Clean Energy Director Jose Beceiro and others will speak to SEMI Austin members on Wednesday, September 24 at the MCC Auditorium from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Speakers will focus on new applications and markets that will drive growth for SEMI members and the global semiconductor industry.

Other featured speakers include noted futurist and technologist David Smith, who will look ahead to 2030 and envision how semiconductor technology will impact our lives and Bettina Weiss, head of the SEMI photovoltaic program in North America, who will review the association’s PV initiative.

The 5th Annual InnoTech Austin Conference will take place on Thursday, October 16, the at the Austin Convention Center.
