Austin's Clean Energy Industry on the Move
Everywhere you look Austin is making headlines. Austin Energy was ranked by the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) as one of the top ten utilities in the U.S. to have the most solar electricity integrated into their energy mix as of the end of 2007.
Also, Brandt Engineering, a mechanical, electrical and plumbing building solutions provider, has announced the expansion of a new 9,000 square foot office in the Airport Commerce Park in Southeast Austin. The new complex will also headquarter Brandt ECO Services, a new arm of the company specializing in sustainable technologies and energy solutions for commercial, institutional and industrial buildings.

Spotlight On Community Relations and Customer Service Finalists
The spotlight turns this week to the finalists for the 2008 Greater Austin Business Awards categories of Community Relations and Customer Service. Judges were challenged to choose winners from among the best Austin has to offer in the categories of Innovation, Customer Service, Education, Community Relations, Take On Traffic and Environment as well as the Freescale not-for-profit $5,000 award. Joint Northwest and South Austin Business Council Luncheon
Join us for the year's first joint-business council luncheon this Wednesday, August 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Austin Country Club, where Austin City Council Member Lee Leffingwell will be the keynote speaker. Don't miss this exciting program and your chance to meet and mingle with Council Member Leffingwell and members of both the Northwest and South Area Business Councils.
Lee Leffingwell is a native of Austin and a retired airline pilot. He graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in mechanical engineering, then became an officer and pilot in the Unites States Navy. After spending five years on active duty, including Vietnam, Leffingwell left active duty and joined the Navy Reserve, completing a total of 20 years military service. He was a pilot and Captain for Delta Air Lines for almost 32 years, ending his airline career as an international Boeing 767 and MD-11 Captain. Leffingwell served for more than five years as a consensus appointee to the City of Austin's Environmental Board and was elected by his peers as Chair for the last four of those years.

South Austin Business Council Presents: A Taste of South Austin

Cesar Chavez Now Travels Two-ways
The construction of the five blocks of Cesar Chavez Street downtown is finally complete and is officially two-way just after morning rush hour today. The change means fewer eastbound lanes than before but allows people going west from Congress Avenue to avoid the longtime detour to Second or Third streets.

The Nike+ Human Race 10K
Austin will serve as one of four US host cities including New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago for the Nike+ Human Race, the world's largest one day running event ever, offering runners across the globe the chance to compete together on August 31. This 10K event will span four continents and cover 25 cities. The goal is to partner with the entire community: runners, non-runners, elite runners, corporations, local businesses, youth, students and families to engage folks like you to run and be part of history. Austin’s own RunTex is the official retail partner for the event, and the race will support three global charities including the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
