Finalists for the Greater Austin Business Awards in the Spotlight
The finalists have been selected for the 2008 Greater Austin Business Awards bringing these companies one step closer to winning. The judges were challenged to choose winners from among the best Austin has to offer in the categories of Innovation, Customer Service, Education, Community Relations, Take On Traffic and Environment as well as the Freescale not-for-profit $5,000 award. The small, medium, large and not-for-profit businesses contending are all deserving of some time in the spotlight. Over the next few weeks the finalists who have helped make Austin what it is today will be featured to show why they can say "We Built This City." Senator Watson To Address State/Federal Issues Committee
The Chamber’s State/Federal Issues Committee is looking for more members to participate in the creation of the Chamber’s 2009 legislative agenda. On August 20, State Senator Kirk Watson, former Austin Mayor and 2005 Chamber Chairman, will share his thoughts on hot legislative topics and his goals for the 2009 session with the committee.
The State/Federal Issues Committee reviews legislative issues of potential impact to the Central Texas business community and recommends position statements to the Chamber board. Discussions regarding the 2009 agenda will continue over several meetings through the fall and culminate in a reception for the Central Texas legislative delegation in early December. The Chamber is gearing up to begin another round of the popular Business by Referrals series starting September 10. This group meets every other Wednesday over lunch for 3 months (6 sessions total) in the Chamber boardroom, and it incorporates educational tools to help professionals meet their sales goals.
