More Ways to Take on Traffic
As Central Texas continues to grow at breakneck speeds, local jurisdictions are working to meet the infrastructure needs of today and plan for tomorrow. Over the next two weeks you have the opportunity to learn more about two projects and provide your input.

US 290 east, now known as the Manor Expressway, is the first of five major road projects approved last fall and is moving through the final stages of design and approval. Williamson County is studying the SH 29 corridor to determine the alignment of a future expressway.

Opportunity Austin Welcomes iEnergizer of Texas
Opportunity Austin, the Chamber’s economic development initiative, celebrated the expansion of iEnergizer Inc. at an open house Tuesday, July 22. The 29,000-square-foot facility within the Northview Business Center will support selected clients in the gaming industry and expects to provide upwards of 300 new jobs to the Austin area by the middle of 2009. NAI Austin, a lead investor in Opportunity Austin, participated in the announcement.

This marks the 15th relocation of a company to Austin this year and 138th relocation since the programs inception in 2004. For more information please visit www.austinchamber.com.

How Will Congressional Issues Impact Your Business?
Hear firsthand, from U.S. Congressman Lloyd Doggett, what issues Congress is considering that will impact business in Central Texas on Tuesday, August 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency. Doggett founded and co-chairs the bipartisan House Information Technology Roundtable, a group that promotes dialogue between business, policymakers and the public on important high-tech issues.

Northwest and South Austin Business Council Luncheon with Austin Mayor Will Wynn
Join us for the year's first joint-business council luncheon on August 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Austin Country Club, where Austin Mayor Will Wynn will be the keynote speaker. Don't miss this exciting program and your chance to meet and mingle with Mayor Wynn and members of both the Northwest and South Area Business Councils!

Wynn was elected Austin’s 50th Mayor in 2003 and re-elected in 2006 with over 78 percent of the vote. Wynn has more than 20 years experience in the commercial real estate industry, with projects large and small. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute and believes that only through dramatically better land use practices can Austin and the surrounding region appropriately deal with challenges like traffic, air quality, housing affordability and environmental protection. In addition to his local responsibilities, Wynn has risen to a position of national leadership on energy and climate issues. Since 2004 he has chaired the Energy Committee of the 1,200-member U.S. Conference of Mayors and is a key member of the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Task Force.

Austin Energy Featured as Top 10 Solar Integrated Utilities
Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) announced rankings that reveal Austin Energy as one of the top ten utilities in the United States that have the most solar electricity integrated into their energy mix as of the end of 2007. The rankings are based on information provided through a survey of utilities and independent research.

New Transportation Committee Looks Down the Road
A new committee of Texas leaders has been created to map out the state’s transportation needs through 2030. Formed by Texas Transportation Commission Chair Deirdre Delisi, the 12-member 2030 Committee has been charged with assessing infrastructure needs in light of mounting economic challenges over the next 22 years. The committee will issue a report on its findings in December 2008.

The committee, comprised of business and transportation experts, held its first public hearing July 24. Sandy Hentges, Senior Vice President for Public Policy, spoke on behalf of the Chamber, identifying the impact on local businesses of congestion and encouraging a multimodal solution.
