Northwest Business Council Features Continuing Education
Come join us Thursday, July 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Texas Culinary Academy for lunch and a special presentation put on by the Northwest Business Council. Six educational institutions will be on hand to discuss each of their continuing education programs. This is a great chance to learn about programs available to your employees. The presentation will also provide employees with a chance to learn about the different opportunities for advancing their careers with the help of these programs.
Each educational institution will give a short presentation on their programs and later have a booth set up to distribute additional information and answer more specific questions. Cost is $20 for NWBC members and $35 for non-members. Learn more about the participating schools and register HERE.

SABC Presents: What's Up With Downtown?
An overview of the downtown condo developments will be the topic at the South Austin Business Council luncheon on Tuesday, July 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Austin Music Hall, 208 Nueces Street. Panelists Bob Burton of Armbrust & Brown, Julie Fitch of Dowtown Austin Alliance and Taylor Andrews of Andrews Urban will present the downtown Austin condominium overview. Public Testimony Heard by Governor’s Competitiveness Council
On June 23, the Governor’s Competitiveness Council (GCC) held a meeting and heard public testimony on the draft documents being submitted to Governor Rick Perry in July.
The Council’s Report to the Governor is a set of recommendations that reflect months of council members’ work, recommendations by IBM and ICF International (consultants retained by the GCC), and meetings to gather concerns from the public and private sector on how to improve and enhance the state’s competitive position in a global marketplace.

Small Employer Health Plan Purchase Survey
The Central Texas Regional Health Coverage Project (CTRHCP) is developing low cost Health Coverage Plan(s) for small Texas employers (2 to 50 employees). CTRHCP intends to offer two Health Plans -- a Low-Cost Plan and a Mid-Cost Plan. Both plans will offer the same benefits, however, the Low Cost Plan's out-of-pocket expenses will be slightly higher than the Mid-Cost Plan's. CTRHCP hopes to makes these Plans available in Fall 2008. BioAustin attends BIO 2008 in San Diego
Representatives from BioAustin and the Austin region attended the BIO2008 Conference in San Diego and participated in the Texas booth. Nearly 20,000 industry leaders from 70 different countries and 48 states attended the conference. The 4-day conference included 175 breakout sessions, 21 educational tracks and more than 1,000 speakers.
One of the highlights in the Texas booth was the announcement by Secretary of State Phil Wilson of the newest Texas Emerging Technology Fund (ETF) life science recipients. Terapio, one of the two companies selected, was recognized for innovations in the treatment and prevention of Hand-Foot Syndrome. Curt Bilby, 2008 Chair of BioAustin is President of Terapio.
