President Calvin Coolidge observed, “No enterprise can exist for itself alone. It ministers to some great need, it performs some great service, not for itself but for others, or failing that it ceases to be profitable and ceases to exist.”
While Tupperware Brands weaves a commitment to others into every aspect of our business, each October we pay special tribute to this effort through Global Volunteer Day. Across the globe, Tupperware Brands’ associates, sales force members, and their families and friends take part in service projects to reinforce the message that this company does not exist for itself alone.
Because there was so much happening around the globe in October, this issue puts a spotlight on a few more of the service initiatives. The key to all the projects was engagement, getting people out and involved in their communities so we can better understand the issues and how to resolve them.
Avroy ShlainThe team at Avroy Shlain Cosmetics raised donations and organized a party for the children and moms at Bethany House, a close community partner since 2004. Bethany House is a home for abused women and their children and assists them with their reintegration back into the wider society following traumatic and often near death experiences. The aim is to provide accommodations, counseling, and spiritual services for destitute women and children. The children's ages range from a couple of hours old up to 7 years. Bethany House offers a safe and loving environment to all those in need. Families stay an average of 6 to 18 months, depending on their healing process.

For the holidays, Avroy Shlain volunteers served as Father Christmas, played with the children, and passed out delicious treats and ice cream. It was a wonderful respite and joyful time for the residents.
Other Avroy Shlain volunteer efforts during the year focused on Sizabantwana, a home for AIDS-orphaned children in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga. The Corporate Social Investment team coordinated a book and stationery drive and delivered the much needed donations to the home.

Nutrimetics Australia In July 2008, Nutrimetics made a commitment to embark on a sustained initiative to support the needs of women and children in their community by starting a social responsibility fund called E
3—Enlighten, Educate, and Empower. E
3 took off by partnering with two specific charities, Look Good… Feel Better and Bravehearts.
Look Good…Feel Better is a community service program devoted to helping restore the confidence and self-esteem of women undergoing cancer treatment. Bravehearts is dedicated to breaking the silence on child abuse. The organization provides healing, support and promotes the need for increased education and research.
An E
3 Committee, comprised of senior sales leaders and Nutrimetics staff, identified specific programs of focus within these two charities. Look Good…Feel Better projects include workshop presentation materials such as mirrors, aprons, and patient bags as well as a new patient video and tools for health care professionals.
Bravehearts and E
3 joined forces to fund a new education in-a-box program to help parents and schools teach kids about personal safety in a fun and non-threatening way.
Sales consultants have embraced E
3 through theme parties to raise both the level of the awareness of the company’s social responsibility and donations. One consultant, Mary Calleya, held a “Pamper a Friend for Charity” night to benefit Bravehearts. Another consultant, Michelle Kerrigan, held a fundraiser that attracted 85 consultants and guests.

Swissgarde Swissgarde partners with a school in a rural area near Pretoria in South Africa called Rethusitswe, which means “we have been helped.” Early in 2008, Swissgarde decided to start a program to foster the healthy development of 181 children ages 5-8 in the school by donating one of its premier products, “Kidz Smart Fish Oil Capsules” as a daily supplement. This age group is generally referred to in the educational system as the “foundation phase pupils” (grades 1-3).
The Kidz Smart Fish Oil Capsules have been shown to stimulate alertness and mental development in children and also benefits children with ADHD (attention deficient/hyperactivity disorder). The “Kidz Smart” project, under the leadership of Zodwa Matseke, HR Manager at Swissgarde, involves classroom teachers and many Swissgarde volunteers.
On November 14, Swissgarde volunteers visited the school to spend time with the students, parents, and teachers. They received a very enthusiastic welcome. During the day, Swissgarde organized drawings for gifts and everyone was entertained by student music and dancing performances.
Teachers and parents attested to the positive changes they had observed in the children who were taking the fish oil capsules as directed. The positive changes increased attentiveness and appetite and improved sleeping habits.
