OSCEOLA COUNTY, FL — On February 29, 2008, Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida (BGCCF), alongside Tupperware Brands Corporation, Osceola County Commissioners, Walt Disney World Resort, and the Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation, hosted an unveiling ceremony for the development of the area’s newest Boys & Girls Club – Tupperware Brands Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida.

The mission of BGCCF is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. The organization’s Osceola County Branch has been in existence since the 1970s, but has outgrown the current space and is in need of updated facilities and amenities. In March 2002, Tupperware’s CEO and National Chairman of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Rick Goings, and Group President Glenn Drake, pledged to donate $1 million to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida’s endowment campaign over a 10-year period. Additional donors include Osceola County Commissioners, Walt Disney World Resort, and the Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation.
“Boys & Girls Clubs of America has a successful history as a youth development organization that provides exceptional programs and services for young people. Tupperware Brands is delighted to invest in the future of the children of Central Florida,” said Goings. “Success is within the reach of every child but to achieve high impact we must build strong organizations with world-class leaders and diverse funding streams, and that is what we have accomplished in this new Club. We sincerely appreciate the support of our civic and corporate partners, and know that together we continue to make the world a better place – one child at a time.”
“This will be a tremendous opportunity to serve the boys and girls of Osceola County,” said Paul Owen, Osceola County Commissioner and BGCCF 's Osceola Branch Board Chairman. “Our community will be positively impacted by the addition of the new Boys & Girls Club facility.”
The new facility will expand its space from 12,500 sq. feet to 25,000 sq. feet and will accommodate twice as many members than it currently hosts. The updated building will consist of multiple, state-of-the-art program areas including a teen center and an elementary wing, a full-size gymnasium, dance studio, kitchen computer lab, and multiple learning and education areas.
“We are very excited to be breaking ground and moving forward with our new Boys & Girls Club in Osceola County,” remarked Gary Cain, BGCCF President. “We are so very grateful for our outstanding community partners – Tupperware Brands Corporation, Osceola County Government, Walt Disney World, and Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation – for helping make this dream become a reality. Our new facility will allow us to double the number of youths we serve daily and increase our annual membership to roughly 1,000.”
“The Boys & Girls Club has answered the call to action by our civic leaders of Osceola County to instill a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging, and influence in the lives of our children,” said David A. Odahowski, President and CEO of Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation, Inc. “We are proud to join with the other donors to this project, knowing that the children who use this Club will be the future employees and employers of the prosperous and caring Osceola County.”
Walt Disney World Resort pledged $750,000 to create a state-of-the art Teen Center for the Club. “Our company’s relationship with the Boys & Girls Clubs dates back to Walt Disney himself, and we are proud to continue building on this legacy,” said Walt Disney World President Meg Crofton. “The people of Osceola County have played an important role in our history and our success, and we look forward to helping make dreams come true for the young people who will benefit from our sponsorship of the Teen Center.”
