Partnerships for Sustainable Development: The Oslo Conference on Good Governance and Social and Environmental Responsibility
28 – 30 March, Oslo
Hosted by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with WBCSD, UNEP, the Global Compact, GRI, the Norwegian Ministry of the Environment and the City of Oslo. The Oslo Conference will address a broad range of sustainability issues. It has been inspired by the belief that broad dialogue and inclusive partnerships are key to successful implementation and innovation. The Oslo Conference will be an innovative and challenging event on the crucial challenges facing business and sustainability today: Can we continue to operate as we always have, or do we need to think and act in radically different ways?

Responsible Business Practices in the Oil & Gas Sector: Implementing the Global Compact Principles
28 – 29 March, Kuala Lumpur
The World Petroleum Council and the Global Compact are convening a peer-to-peer industry forum for national and international oil and gas companies. At the forum, participants will share practical experiences and exchange the challenges and opportunities they face in acting responsibly and in implementing standards, such as the Global Compact principles, into their business operations. The forum focuses particularly on the Asian region and is kindly hosted by Petronas. The goal of the meeting is for participants to gain an enhanced understanding of how companies in the petroleum sector are implementing the Global Compact principles and engaging in community development.

3rd Communication on Progress Expert Meeting

The objective of the meeting is to bring together preparers and users of COPs to understand how this communication mechanism can continue evolving as a reliable tool for transparency and accountability.

US Network Meeting: Managing Climate Change
3 April, UN Headquarters New York
This meeting is open to all US companies, NGOs and stakeholders in the US Network. It will focus on the risks and opportunities presented by climate change with the objective of developing a strategic framework for action. The meeting will feature a range of presentations from experts as well as group dialogue. The meeting is also open to the US-based affiliates of non-US companies.

Global Business Summit for the Environment (B4E)
19 – 20 April, Singapore
Hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Global Compact. Leaders from business, NGO, international organisations and government agencies will gather at B4E ’07 to discuss environmental issues related to growth and global climate change. With the theme “Aligning Environmental Responsibility with Business Success”, B4E’07 will reinforce the fundamental message of corporate environmental responsibility amongst the international business community.
This will be the first major international conference focusing on business and the environment to be held in Asia. The conference will highlight the urgency for companies worldwide to embrace environmental responsibility and share strategies and best practices in environmental performance management, efficiency in corporate energy use and developments in green building, technology and urban planning.

Regional Meeting of Global Compact Network Focal Points: Latin America & Caribbean

Progress and Value Workshop (Latin America & Caribbean)

Organized by the Barcelona Center for the Support of the Global Compact. The Progress and Value Workshop is designed to prepare participants as mentors in their own organizations and also in their local networks. The workshop will be attended by a mix of representatives from local networks, company participants and other organizations working to support the implementation of the ten principles.
The workshop will concentrate on enabling a real commitment to internalize the ten principles and to contribute to the broader development goals of the United Nations and understanding the value of assessing and sharing information on progress towards those goals.

Global Compact Leaders Summit
Facing Realities: Getting Down to Business
5 – 6 July, UN Headquarters Geneva
With a focus on understanding and managing the spectrum of emerging opportunities and risks, the Global Compact Leaders Summit provides a platform for leaders to shape the international agenda in ways that advance the mission and objectives of the Global Compact.
The Global Compact Leaders Summit will be a historic gathering of top executives from participating businesses, heads of international labour, civil society and United Nations agencies, and high-ranking government officials. Approximately 1,000 leaders are expected to attend the Leaders Summit. The Leaders Summit, to be chaired by the United Nations Secretary-General Ban, provides a platform:
- to take stock of previous actions and experiences;
- to discuss and debate the role of business in today's society;
- to collectively identify practical solutions to the wide the spectrum of emerging opportunities and risks of globalization; and
- to further shape the international governance agenda in ways that advance the mission and objectives of the Global Compact and lead to meaningful changes in society.
The objective of the Leaders Summit is to advance and enhance leadership strategies for mainstreaming responsible corporate practices which are rooted in the Global Compact's ten principles. A desired outcome of the Leaders Summit is a clear road map for the future of the initiative.
