Port, City launch pilot trade project with Fuzhou, China
The City of Tacoma and the Port of Tacoma recently announced the launch of the Fuzhou Pilot Project. The 18-month project, jointly funded by the City and Port, aims to expand trade, primarily exports to China, and to attract foreign direct investment to the Tacoma-Pierce County region. City hosts community meeting on mixed-use centers
Don’t miss the City of Tacoma’s upcoming community meeting regarding a Mixed-Use Center Regulatory Review from 6 to 8 p.m. on April 30 at Bates Technical College, South Campus Auditorium, 2201 S. 78th St.
The Planning Commission and the City Council are considering adoption of changes to height limits, zoning and development standards in 16 mixed-use centers within the City of Tacoma. This community meeting is designed for you to learn more about the project and provide feedback. City of Tacoma releases Downtown Tacoma Economic Impact Analysis
The City of Tacoma has released a draft of the Downtown Tacoma Economic Impact Analysis, and other items that will feed into the City of Tacoma’s development of a strategic plan for downtown Tacoma.
To provide a blueprint for increased investment, the City of Tacoma's Community and Economic Development Department is partnering with AngelouEconomics, an Austin-based economic development consulting firm, to create this economic development strategic plan for downtown.
AngelouEconomics' first deliverable is the Downtown Economic Impact Analysis, which identifies the economic impact of downtown on the rest of Tacoma, Pierce County, and the state as a whole. Also, results from a market analysis and a recent resident and business-owner survey are included.

Buy tickets now for Kunstler lecture
Tickets are still available for the James Howard Kunstler lecture taking place at 7 p.m. on April 23 at the Theater on the Square, which is being hosted by Local Life Tacoma and www.exit133.com.
Kunstler is an urban planning advocate, social critic, journalist and novelist who will offer insights on the state of Tacoma and sign autographs following the session.

Grants now available for surface water education, restoration projects
Plan a field trip, study a creek, plant some native species or even put on a puppet show! The possibilities are endless. Make a Splash environmental grants of up to $2,500 are available from City of Tacoma Environmental Services to any school, group or individual considering a project to help protect and restore surface water resources within the Tacoma city limits.
