Chamber shows what’s on the economic horizon
The Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce will host the Horizons 2008 Economic Forecast breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 13 at the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center. The Pierce County Economic Index will be offered and is an annual forecast of the area's economic well-being. Local businesses receive a quantitative forecast through this report to determine business outlook, and the Horizons event provides insight from experts on local, regional and national aspects of the economy. For more information, visit the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce Web site.

Architecture students bring light to McKinley development possibilities
University of Idaho Associate Professor Anne Marshall and her senior architecture students will bring their concepts for innovative designs and envisioning the future of the McKinley Business District at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 3 at Celebration Hall, 3523 McKinley Ave. These designs are for mixed-use projects to help return the district to a vibrant community center. This event is free and open to the public.

Don’t miss the downtown holiday tree lighting
The lighting of downtown Tacoma’s holiday tree in front of the Pantages Theater at 901 Broadway will kick off for the season with a free open house from 5 to 6:30 p.m., on Dec. 2 in the Pantages lobby, including performances by the Fort Lewis I Corps Quintet and the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association Quintet. Santa will arrive and the official tree lighting will take place at approximately 6 p.m.

City Services Spotlight: Community Based Services
The City of Tacoma is home to the Community Based Services program in which dedicated City of Tacoma teams partner with community and business members in four pilot areas of Tacoma to address issues of safety, housing, street design, neighborhood planning, commercial revitalization and other priorities that the neighbors in the area identify.

For more information on the Community Based Services way of doing business, visit www.cityoftacoma.org/cbs and be sure to keep up with the progress of this program by subscribing to the CBS Works newsletter at www.cityoftacoma.org/cbsworks.
