Watch us glitter, glisten and gleam
The Tacoma Art Museum is inviting you to come decked out in sequins, tinsel, and glitter for their free community celebration from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 10 at the museum, 1701 Pacific Ave. Steel drums, wandering performers, cotton candy, sparkling wine, and an iron artist competition will be part of the festivities. Showcase Tacoma dazzles downtown
Showcase Tacoma is downtown Tacoma’s spectacular public cultural arts celebration featuring a weekend of interactive art, an artist alley, fabulous food, live music, dance performances, a wine and beer garden and chalk art. Showcase Tacoma runs from Aug. 10 to 12 in and around the University of Washington, Tacoma. For more information, visit the Showcase Tacoma Web site.
 
McKinley Street Festival brings you to the Top of Tacoma
The Top of Tacoma McKinley Street Festival will occur this year on Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the heart of the McKinley Hill Business District (East 35th Street and McKinley Avenue). This function will include the Animalocity Pet Parade, a fundraiser for the Dugan Foundation, a kiddie carnival, a school supply giveaway, two music stages, food, several vendors and more. KISW’s Pain in the Grass rocks Tacoma
Pain in the Grass, the legendary Seattle concert series, will be rockin’ Tacoma’s Cheney Stadium, 2502 S Tyler St, starting at 1 p.m. on Aug. 11. This lineup, brought to Tacoma by 99.9 KISW, includes Godsmack, Buckcherry and Candlebox. For more information, visit KISW’s Pain in the Grass Web site.
 
Bluegrass band offers old time fun in Blueberry Park
Bluegrass and Blueberries, a festival taking place in Tacoma’s Blueberry Park (East 74th and East D streets), will occur from 1 to 3 p.m. on Aug. 11. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and snacks to enjoy the Looking Glass band and the hot dogs and ice cream that will be offered for sale. Sanford and Son asks you to prom
The Middle Floor Merchants and Sanford and Son, located at 743 Broadway, will host a special event, “Prom: One Night in Bangkok,” from 7 p.m. to midnight on Aug. 11 at 743 Broadway. Their prom is a fundraiser for the Ashley House and will be home to bands like Girl Trouble, munchies from Stadium Bistro, and a king and queen will also be crowned. Glass Roots Arts Festival returns
The Glass Roots Festival, brought together by the Tacoma Arts Community, will enter its second year from noon to 6 p.m. on Aug. 19 on Court D, between South 11th and South 13th streets.
