• The proprietors of Le Le’s are in the process of expanding their restaurant, located at 1012 Martin Luther King Jr. Way. They’ve torn down a wall separating two business spaces, and have doubled their seating capacity.

Freighthouse Square welcomes 20th anniversary
Freighthouse Square is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and the Community and Economic Development Department would like to wish this unique community shopping center a happy birthday.
 
Weekly Volcano publishes Best of Tacoma issue
The Weekly Volcano has published their first-ever Best of Tacoma issue this week. This issue contains musings from their writers and readers on what makes Tacoma the ideal place to live. Copies of the Weekly Volcano are available at various street locations, businesses and cultural amenities throughout Tacoma. Summer festivals add vibrancy to Tacoma’s streets
Tis the season of summertime festivals in Tacoma, and here are some that you’ll want to add to your calendar.
Ethnic Fest – A celebration featuring performing arts, visual arts, crafts, dancing, information and foods representing cultures from around the globe, taking place on July 28 and 29 in Wright Park.
Showcase Tacoma and the McKinley Street Festival – Make a day of Tacoma on Aug. 11 by enjoying the arts and cultural happenings as a part of the weekend-long Showcase Tacoma, taking place in and around the University of Washington, Tacoma, and then heading up the hill to the Top of Tacoma McKinley Street Festival, home to this year’s Animalocity Pet Parade.
Glitter, Glisten and Gleam – On Aug. 10, the Tacoma Art Museum will host a free community celebration, Glitter, Glisten and Gleam, in honor of their summer of Sparkle with steel drums, wandering performers, cotton candy, sparkling wine, and an iron artist competition from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Hotrod-a-rama – This is the Pacific Northwest’s largest pre-1965 hot rod festival which will rev in and around the Swiss Pub on Aug. 3 and 4.
• Proctor Arts Fest – An arts festival in the historic North End, taking place on Aug. 4 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
 
TV Tacoma broadcasts "Gertie: A Tale of Three Bridges"
TV Tacoma is currently bridging the past and the present with “Gertie: A Tale of Three Bridges” as a part of their programming mix. Be sure to learn about this tale of bridges and re-discover how Gertie, the first Tacoma Narrows Bridge otherwise known as Galloping Gertie, changed the future for Tacoma and the Kitsap Peninsula – and for bridge engineering. The show will air on the following times:

• Saturday, July 28, 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
• Sunday, July 29, 2 a.m., 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.
• Monday, July 30, 5 a.m., 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.
• Tuesday, July 31, 5 a.m. and 1 p.m.

City Services Spotlight: TAGRO
Short for “Tacoma Grow,” the City of Tacoma’s award-winning TAGRO Mix, TAGRO Potting Soil and TAGRO Mulch can provide better results with your lawn and garden, indoor or outdoor — even while you help to reuse community resources and protect the environment.

By the bucket or truckload, TAGRO customers say their gardens grow faster, lawns grow thicker and trees grow taller. Vegetables and flowers grown in TAGRO have earned more than 120 ribbons at the Puyallup Fair since 1992. Also, the City’s biosolids program has received national awards, including the Environmental Protection Agency’s first place award for the best biosolids program in the country.
