New Business Update: Biella by Ruth Michelle, Cans, Capers, Funkoma, Dragonfly
• Avanti Spa, located at 1506 Pacific Ave. has changed its name to Biella by Ruth Michelle. • Cans, a nightlife spot that offers 32 cans of beer, has opened at 100 S. 9th St. • Capers Downtown, a restaurant featuring salads, sandwiches and soups, has opened at 701 Pacific Ave. • Funkoma Vintage, a vintage clothing retailer, has opened at 306 E. 26th St. • Dragonfly, uniquely inspired furnishings, has opened at 102 Puyallup Ave.

Narrows Bridge celebration to take place
The Washington State Department of Transportation will host a public grand opening celebration of the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge on July 15 starting at 8 a.m. The Community and Economic Development Department would like to congratulate WSDOT, the communities the bridge serves, the drivers who will use it every day, and the men and women who put in more than 3.5 million work hours to construct the new bridge. Tacoma population surpasses 200,000
The Washington State Office of Financial Management recently released an official population update that puts Tacoma over the 200,000 mark, at 201,700! This is up from the 2006’s figure of 199,600. As populations increase, so do the amenities that follow. As such, please continue to spread the good word about Tacoma. An easy way to do so is by referring family, friends and colleagues to our Forward Tacoma publication.

Fourteen blues bands soothe Tacoma’s soul

Get frisky with this year’s Zoobilee
Don’t miss the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium’s Zoobilee from 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. on July 20, which is sure to be the black-tie affair of the summer. This year’s theme is “On the Rocks, A Frisky Formal,” and includes cuisine and cocktails from 60 restaurants and beverage retailers and five different stages in the charming setting of Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. The Tacoma Beer Society has formed and they recently held their first meeting and tasting at Stadium Bistro.
