The Scott Pierson Trail extends along the State Route 16 corridor and was built as part of a Washington State Department of Transportation project that widens SR 16 and adds high-occupancy vehicle lanes. The inaugural community event on May 12 is to honor the memory of Scott Pierson who was an avid bike rider and a 23-year employee of the City of Tacoma.
