Gintz Group redevelops former parking garage as office space
Those who stop by City Hall will notice the renovation of a former parking garage located at 732 Broadway, with one entrance on Broadway and another at the foot of Opera Ally. The building is currently being transitioned to commercial property that will be the future home of Rusty George Design and the Gintz Group. Both organizations hope to start moving within a month. We welcome both to the Theater District neighborhood.

City offers QuickBooks courses for business owners
The Community and Economic Development Department is sponsoring two Introduction to QuickBooks workshops from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on either Nov. 14 or 16 at Bates Technical College, 1101 S. Yakima Ave. These sessions will assist small-and-medium sized business owners within Tacoma in discovering the benefits of using QuickBooks to track expenses, purchases, volume control and other accounting details. It will also help attendees get familiar with basic accounting and bookkeeping terms, track purchase orders, set up payroll, enter account information and improve communications with bookkeepers and accountants. These free courses will be taught by Jake Jacobsen, a certified trainer and instructor at Bates Technical College and Tacoma Community College. There are a few spots left in both sessions. November 16 shimmers with downtown events
The evening of Nov. 16 will be one of celebration in Tacoma’s downtown. Developers, merchants and community members have banded together to usher in the idea of putting more and more feet on the streets of downtown. The centerpiece for the 16th will be a performance by Three Mo Tenors at the recently renovated Pantages Theater. Tacoma residents will receive a 30 percent discount for this show. Businesses nearby like Ravenous, Over the Moon and Vin Grotto will stay open later to accommodate the show goers. These events are also taking place during the Third Thursday Art Walk. November 18 sparkles with downtown activities
Another hot culture night is taking place downtown on Nov. 18 with the following activities: • House of Kubla Kahn, a Tacoma Indie Fashion Showcase, will take place at Indochine, 1934 Pacific Ave. Seating will begin at 3pm with the show starting at 4 p.m. and a designer reception at 5 p.m. Only a few tables are left, so reserve your space now by calling Indochine at (253) 572-8200. • Kulture Lab, a new gallery and art space next to the Grand Theater, will host a free grand opening from 7 to 11 p.m. Located in the Merlino Arts Center at 608 Fawcett St., the Kulture Lab is a center for art, paintings, video, film, performance, sculpture and conceptual art. They’re fittingly calling it edible art. • Snowballed, the Tacoma Art’s Community’s one-year anniversary, will take place at 7 p.m. at The Soma United Church, 2320 Pacific Ave., featuring live music, refreshments and dancing. The price of admission is one handmade snowflake that will be donated to Mary Bridge Hospital’s Festival of Trees. • The Threshold, an event featuring fashion, dance, theater, rock and hipopera at the Soma Church, 2320 Pacific Ave. • Tempest Lounge, the landmark martini haven and one of the revitalizing forces on Martin Luther King Jr. Way, will celebrate its one-year anniversary all night long. This event will likely be a who’s who amongst Tacoma’s artists after such a full day of festivities. Stop by and help proprietors Denise and Michelle celebrate at 913 Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

Tacoma restaurant update: Matador, Masa, Puget Sound Pizza, Stadium Bistro
• The anxiously-awaited Matador Tex-Mex restaurant and tequila bar will open tonight at 721 Pacific Ave. downtown. • Masa, a traditional Mexican restaurant and the second venture for the owners of Asado, is anticipating that they’ll open on Nov. 24 at the corner of 6th Avenue and Pine Street. Masa will also be serving food 24 hours a day on Friday and Saturday and offering breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. • Puget Sound Pizza is anticipating that their expansion to a 65-seat restaurant will be complete by Dec. 1 at 317 S. Seventh St. • Construction has begun on Paddy Conye’s, an Irish Pub that will be located in the bottom floor of the Olympus Hotel, 815 Pacific Ave. Coyne is hoping to open by approximately early December. • Construction continues on Stadium Bistro, located next to Doyle’s Irish Pub, on South Second Avenue and St. Helens. The proprietors of Stadium Bistro are hoping to open soon. We’ll keep you posted here in Forward Tacoma.
