This week the Tacoma City Council passed the Broadway Neighborhood Local Improvement District, which will create coordinated infrastructure and streetscape improvements on Broadway, Market Street and St. Helens. • Aroma Relaxation Massage and Healing Center has opened at 614 S. Fife.
• Brilliant Life Chiropractic will host a grand opening on May 3 at 2610 6th Ave.
• The Hub restaurant has opened at 203 Tacoma Ave. S.
• Maxwell’s Speakeasy and Lounge has opened at 454 St. Helens Ave.
• McBeattie’s Book Shoppe has opened at 3819 Sixth Ave.
• The Shoe Show has opened at 2614B 6th Ave.

City of Destiny Awards to honor outstanding volunteers
The City of Tacoma will recognize Tacoma’s outstanding volunteers at the 22nd Annual City of Destiny Awards May 13. Mayor Bill Baarsma and the City Council will honor four individuals and four groups for their exemplary service at the 7 p.m. ceremony at Jason Lee Middle School, 602 N. Pacific Avenue Business Association hosts first Spring Festival
The Pacific Avenue Business Association will host their first-ever Spring Festival this Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Stewart Middle School, 5010 Pacific Ave. This event will include 45 vendors, live entertainment and food. Be there!
 
Tacoma Art Museum celebrates fifth year at 1701 Pacific
The Tacoma Art Museum will mark their building’s fifth birthday with a five-hour party from noon to 5 p.m. on May 3. This celebration will include free admission, music, face painting, art activities, birthday cake, and a giant birthday card. For more information, visit the birthday party Web site. Also, the Tacoma Art Museum is hosting an event with portrait artist Chuck Close and poet Bob Holman at 2 p.m. on May 11 at the Pantages Theater, 901 Broadway. Don’t miss the Livable Communities Fair
The City of Tacoma is very proud to sponsor the fourth biennial Livable Communities Fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 17 at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall. Through this event, thousands will convene to visit more than 150 booths that provide information on building and sustaining livable communities. Best of all, this event is free. Proctor puts on the pink
The Proctor Business District will host Puttin’ on the Pink, a benefit for the Breast Cancer Resource Center from 5 to 9 p.m. on May 8 throughout the district. This event will include specials, discounts and gift bags from several of the merchants. Tickets are available at participating businesses in the district.
