Dear Focal Points,
Welcome to the 12th issue of the UN-Business Focal Point newsletter!
First and foremost, I would like to announce the UN Global Compact Office is leading the organization of the upcoming UN Leadership Forum on Climate Change to take place on 22 September 2009. The event will provide a unique opportunity for the private sector to make the case to Heads of State and Government that business has a strong interest in the negotiation of a balanced and effective United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Copenhagen this December. More information on this event can be found in the “Themes and Debate” section of this newsletter.
In this issue, there are a number of interesting articles which may be of interest to you, including examples of new partnership initiatives, as well as a “Themes and Debate” section with articles on, for example, the power of networking as well as an introduction to the US State Department’s new “Global Partnership Initiative”. This issue also includes fascinating interviews with Laura Altinger, private sector focal point at UNECE as well as Richard Golding from PricewaterhouseCoopers. Lastly, this issue also includes a number of tools and resources, for example, a report on the “Labour Principles of the UN Global Compact: A Guide for Business”, as well as a list of upcoming events potentially of interest to focal points.
Lastly, I would like to announce that the next biannual report of the Secretary-General to the General Assembly on Partnerships (GA Report) has been completed and will be released during the next GA session in October. Thank you to all of you who have contributed to this report.
On behalf of the UN Global Compact Office, I would as always like to thank you for reading and for taking the time to contribute articles to this issue. We look forward to hearing more about your work and we encourage you to contact us with your new partnerships, tools, events and ideas. We hope you enjoy this issue!
Best wishes,
Georg
