Issues Impact You, Get Involved

Government impacts your bottom-line. It’s in your enlightened self-interest to pay attention to key issues and engage in the process to influence them.

Health care reform and the update to Fort Collins master plan (called ‘Plan Fort Collins’) are two such issues.

Last week the Chamber sent out a "call for action" on health care. The very short version is that U.S. House of Representatives will be voting on a piece of legislation that will impact a fifth of the U.S. economy and impact all citizens and businesses. Our Congresswoman, Betsy Markey, is listed as undecided. You can contact her office at this link to register your views. The Fort Collins Area Chamber is on the record of supporting health care reform to lower costs and improve access but opposes this legislation, which fails to do either. Here's our official policy  on health care reform (pgs 5-10). You can also click here for the other side of the issue. One final resource is this poll, which just came out today and shows strong opposition to the legislation in the Colorado 4th Congressional District.

The other issue, ‘Plan Fort Collins,’ will spool out over the next year. It involves an update of ‘City Plan’ and the ‘Transportation Master Plan.’ Both of these documents will contain principles and policy guidance that will impact the business community, the community’s quality of life and the long-term economy. The process started with a futurist making a presentation in Fort Collins on March 3 and will continue during the next year with opportunities for electronic input via the City’s Web site and public presentations and feedback. The Chamber will follow this issue closely during the next year. To learn more about the process and schedule, visit the city’s Web site.
