Did you know that Old Town Fort Collins was the inspiration for Disneyland’s Main Street? In 1955 Walt Disney’s turned to one of his trusted studio artists, Harper Goff, to design Disneyland’s Main Street U.S.A., an idealized central street from turn-of-the-century America. Goff modeled the design after his boyhood home: Fort Collins.
You might not also know that the first Chamber of Commerce was located behind the Cache Bank and Trust on College Avenue and Mountain Street. The Chamber was started in 1904 with the help of A.W. Scott, who had a pharmacy on the corner of College and Mountain. The early members of the Chamber worked for the establishment of Rocky Mountain National Park and the completion of the Poudre River Road. Poudre Valley National Bank, Fort Collins’ first bank established in 1878, later moved into the building.
