Editing Your Newsletter with Your Mac
If you have tried editing your newsletter from both a PC and a Macintosh computer, you may have noticed that there are some relatively minor differences between how the interface operates. Rest assured, these difference should not prevent you from being able to create a robust, fully functional newsletter. You should, however be aware of the following differences.
1. The navigational pull-down menus are not present.
The blue navigational pull-down menus that are present when using a windows system do not appear. At present, this is due to the limitations of Macintosh browsers. An identical navigational system is in the works now that will resolve these issues and allow for the full feature navigation for your Macintosh system as well.
2. The online HTML editor is different.
When selecting the “Use Editor” button, you may notice that what it brings up on your Mac is a little different than what you have on a PC. The editor you are provided with shows the HTML code, rather than the end result. The tools provided to you with this text based editor should allow you to easily configure the code you see.
3. Select boxes and buttons look different
The buttons, select lists, and a few other elements of forms on the editor will appear different. If you have navigated the Internet on a Mac in the past, the difference is probably nothing new to you.
4. The “Custom” option for the “Subscription Builder” does not bring up an HTML editor, only the HTML code in a text editor.
Any editing done to the code brought up in this text editor will be applied to the custom “Subscription Builder” area, but at this point, there is no online graphical HTML editor for this feature.
5. Multiple select lists sometimes do not work when running Microsoft Internet Explorer from a Mac.
Microsoft is aware of this issue and may be resolving it any time now, so keep your browser version updated to get the most out of it. In the meantime, if selecting multiple elements in any of these lists (i.e. the file attachment option for the “Send As Email” area) is necessary, you may need to use a different browser such as Netscape.
Customers Viewing Your Newsletter On A Mac
There are no known problems when viewing newsletters from a Macintosh, but there are some things the newsletter publisher may want to be aware of to be sensitive to your Macintosh users.
1. Differences in the display of buttons, select lists, and other form elements.
These differences are purely minor ascetical differences that do not change the functionality of the elements in question in any way. If you are used to viewing the Internet on a windows based system, these elements may seem much different, but to a Mac user, they will seem perfectly normal.
2. Be mindful of basic differences when applying your own HTML to your newsletter.
There are very few major differences in how browsers and email clients will display your newsletter on a Macintosh system as opposed to any other. It is always a good idea, though, to try and keep any HTML code you are entering as basic as possible. This not only decreases any problems that may arise for any Mac users, but will also help increase the end product’s compatibility with older browsers and email clients being run by customers who do not update these programs often.
Known Anomalies
We are investigating a few problems with the site for our Mac users. If you experience these, or any other problems not covered in this document, please report them to our support department. When doing so, please be as detailed as possible in giving us information about the system involved (Browser version, mail client, system OS, etc.).
1. Individual elements of large forms overlapping or not displaying properly.
This is specifically known to have happened on the “Search and Manage Lists” area of the Subscription Manager.
2. When attempting to access the HTML editor using Microsoft Internet Explorer, the browser generates errors about missing files or programs.
This issue should be resolved soon, but if you are experiencing it, please let us
